A very moving movie!
This movie is a great classic!! You'll love watching this on Christmas with your family!

The story is about a man, though it first shows him as a boy around 12, named George Bailey. He dreams of adventure, building things, and also traveling. But he is cooped up in his town called Bedford Falls because of business matters and troubles with the meanest and richest man in town called Mr.Potter. When George loses 8000 dollars, which is partly his Uncle Billy's fault, which is somewhat very important and can make him lose everything and go to jail. I didn't really understand why 8000 dollars could make him bankrupt, but anyway, it does. He panics and decides to commit suicide on Christmas Eve. An angel named Clarence who has no wings help him by showing him a world without him being born. It is a pretty bad world and George repents of his sin and of trying to commit suicide. The ending is great and you'll just love this movie forever!!

人生が素晴らしくあるように！
「今にも自殺しようとしている男を救え」…神からちょっとおとぼけな二級天使のクラレンスに課せられた使命は、絶望の淵にいる男を救うこと。男を救えたら念願の翼がもらえることになったクラレンスは、神と一緒に男、ジョージ・ベイリーの半生をたどって行く…。

文句なしの名作です。ジェームズ・スチュアート演じるジョージが本当に楽しい人で、すぐに彼が大好きになってしまいます。クラレンスが「（ジョージは）いい顔だ。好きですね」と言う場面がありますが、本当にいい顔をしています。ハンサムだけではなくて、心から「生きてるって楽しいよ！」という顔をしていて。

利発で快活な青年ジョージが、様々な苦難を乗り越えながらも、ついには絶望に沈んでしまうのですが、家族に当たり散らしたり酒場で喧嘩したり、「ああ、この人にもこういう一面があったんだな」と思いました。ただ明るく賢いだけじゃなくて、ジョージは人間味にあふれた人物なのです。周りの人々もどこにでもいそうな人物ばかり、おとぼけ天使クラレンスと神様の会話もいいです。
笑いの中にも現実での辛さが織り込まれて、ただの夢物語だと思えません。ジョージのように辛い時にも希望を持って生きていたら、いつか報われる日が来るかもしれない・・・、本気でそう考えさせられる映画です。

Lost Horizon & special features? What more can you ask for?
The real life base (Dr. Li Ching-Yun, 1677-1933) adds to the wonder and mystery. Many movies usually pale compared to the book; however this movie fits all the criteria of a great classic. Such as excellent film footage for the time, even though some scenes are missing. When I look at the Shangri-La setting some times my mind wanders and I wonder if this was the idea behind the valley in the book “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand?

I doubt that they could have picked any better actors for the parts. These actors fit the time and surroundings and were actually believable in the characters they played. A later remake of this movie was o.k. But just did not have the presence of these actors.

By the way I personally enjoy watching and re-watching this movie.
