女性の友情物語
アメリカ南部が舞台。タイトルにもある「マグノリア」は南部のシンボルともいえる花で、日本だと木蓮やこぶしがその種類です。

ジュリア・ロバーツが重い糖尿病を抱えながらも結婚して強く生き抜く女性を明るく演じています。彼女を中心に彼女の母親や行きつけの美容院に集まるいつもの仲間が、いがみあったり、笑いあったりしながら互いを支えあって生きていく人間模様が描かれています。

切なくていい話です。個人的にはシャーリー・マクレーンの切れぶりが凄くておかしい。彼女、他の映画で見たときは感動的に綺麗な英語を話していたのに、これでは普通のアメリカ人…こんなに話し方も変えられるものかと驚きました。他の女優さんもそれぞれ有名な人ばかりだそうです。

まあまあ。
この映画はもう20年くらい前のティーン・ムーヴィーだけど、その割には楽しい。ケヴィン・ベーコンは昔の姿が必見。"Sex and the City"で有名なサラ・ジェシカ・パーカーも友達役で出てる。彼女役のローリー・シンガーはとても高校生には見えないけど、それもまたティーン・ムーヴィーの特徴で面白い。踊りははっきり言って大したものではないけど、話しはおもしろいし、すごく見ててエネルギーが伝わってくる。

Romance and espionage with an explosive plot
Undercover Blues is one of those movies that are the first of its genera; so you are pleasantly surprised the first time you view it. Later you will want to view this movie again to pick up on the hints that tell you what is to come next.

Kathleen Turner and Dennis Quaid are the perfect couple on maternity leave in New Orleans. They do everything together and even involve their baby daughter (Louise Jane or Jane Louise.) They are so perfect that the local bad guy (Stanley Tucci) is constantly trying to get even with them. They are so perfect that the local authorities suspect them of being there on business. Are they and what business might that be?

This movie has lots of action and takes many unexpected turns. It is tightly made and every action has implications later in the movie. Oh, did I mention that it is down right funny?

Beware of "Auntie Vera"
Brantley Foster (Michael J. Fox) new to the city is a young lad out of management school and looking for a job. Luck would have it that his Uncle Howard Prescott (Richard Jordan) runs a big corporation. He gets a chance to work his way up from the mail room.

In the process he encounters his uncle’s wife "Auntie Vera"(Margaret Whitton.) She takes an instant shine to him. One of my favorite scenes is where he barely escapes Auntie Vera’s clutches.

Soon he realizes that the only way to get to the top is start on a higher rung; finding an empty office and knowing the way the building system works, he takes on the persona of Carlton Whitfield male “Suit”. He has a business type interaction with Christy (Helen Slater) a female “Suit”. She has a quasi relationship with someone higher up.

Then the action starts. There is a “working” weekend in which everyone has a second agenda. To this weekend both Brantley and Carlton are invited.

What are Brantley and Vera cooking up?
Is Carlton getting too close to Christy?
Does someone else have plans for Christy?
Will Carlton meet Brantley?

And who is the “bimbo?”

最近ではあまり見なくなったタイプのサクセス・ストーリー。上司の妻に誘惑されるわ、２足わらじの生活を余儀なくされるわ、てんてこ舞いのマイケルに注目。最後は恋に仕事にハッピー・エンドですっきり爽やかな感動をお届けします。

With a little luck and the right attitude you can go far
Goldie Hawn gets shot in the posterior while impulsively saving a politician. Her heroism and notoriety eventually opens up an opportunity to wok in the foreign department as a hostess. She is tagged (unknown to her) to be come a member of a Middle Eastern household. By the time she finds out that she was really an exchange, it is too late. Luck is with her and she learns something in the end. So do we.
