Morals abound
All three of these angles hold there own. (Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray, and Peter Ustinov) they are escaped convicts from Devil's Island; each has an agenda of his own. But they get warped up in the affairs of the family of a local general store owner. To add to the mix it is the Christmas season. The story may not be unique but the way they play it out is both cute and funny.

Some annuals (Christmas season) wear out in time. This is one of those. However it does not distract from the first few times of viewing.

We are very busy watching the major characters so it is easy to overlook the fact that this movie Hs many other good actors such as Leo G. Carroll, Basil Rathbone, Joan Bennett, Peter Ustinov, among others.

Who plays Adolph? We must never forget the protagonist.

Great transition from stage play to film
Leslie Howard and Humphrey Bogart were in the original Broadway play. And this was made again into a film called "Escape in the Desert." Because I knew this movie was supposed to have Humphrey Bogart in it, it was almost like watching two movies, the one before Humphrey Bogart appeared, and the one with Humphrey Bogart. The actual shooting, (oops) I mean filming location is Red Rock Canyon, California, USA. With one this is a story a lot of people coming from different directions in their life. Together they evaluate and solve their problems the best they can in a short given time. The beauty in this movie is the action and reaction of the characters.

A similar action and reaction movie that comes to mind is "Key Largo (1948)". However in this movie Humphrey Bogart gets to be a good guy. After these two movies, one that you need to look for is "Outward Bound (1930)" with Leslie Howard.

This gun is pointed strait at your heart!
1942 the Nazi occupation of France. Refugees must take a long and torturers rout Through Casa Blanca on their way to America; there “Everybody comes to Rick’s.”
Here we also stay for a while to watch a drama unfold. There are overlapping stories. One of a young couple trying to get to America and the girl wondering if a girl should have to do something was wondering what would happen if her husband, “a boy in many ways”, would find out? A second rate crook obtains something of value at the expense of two germane curriers. A Police Captain shocked to find there is gambling going on at Rick’s. Many other stories surround the main theme of a love triangle that started in Paris and now can mean so much to individuals or the effort for freedom.

Will the Nazi’s win their prize?
Will Capt. Renault get the girl?
Will Rick get away with Ilsa?

This film has become quite a classic. There are many quotes and misquotes attributed to the film. You will find your self kibitzing. One memorable seen for all is the showdown where the Germans are singing “Watch on the Rhine” and Yvonne (Madeleine LeBeau) over powers them leading the “La Marseillaise.”

やはり名画です
説明不要の映画ですが、今見てもとても楽しめます。この映画でボガードが演じている「リック」は、当初、レーガン元大統領が予定されていたそうですが、レーガン氏が演じなくて本当によかった！

バーグマンの美しさと気品は今の女優にはないように感じました。
