Nice patriotic formula movie
A hand full of Canadian bush pilots (James Cagney, Dennis Morgan, Alan Hale, George Tobias, and Reginald Gardiner) has a dream of owning their own airline. Naturally a girl (Brenda Marshall) gets in the mix. James Cagney has to sacrifice himself and money (by getting married) to save Dennis Morgan from marring this unreliable woman and losing his dream.
Through all kinds of misunderstandings the pilots all end up in the Royal Air Force planning to give it to those Nazis. Each pilot still brings his bush nature with him; for many that nature may mean their demise.

見ごたえ十分。
ええ！この作品のDVDが見つからないが、日本では発売されていないの？
サイレント時代から子役で活躍し、名作『グランドホテル（1932）』では
主演グレタ・ガルボとの共演としてその人気を不動の物とし、一躍ハリウッドの
スターにのし上ったが、徐々に人気が衰えはじめた。そんなジョーン・クロフォードに
待望のアカデミー主演女優賞をもたらした作品であり、かなり強烈な印象を
与えてくれた作品でした。

バツイチのビジネスウーマンの光と影を、当時増加傾向にあったアメリカ女性の
社会進出に合わせてのストーリー展開は、家庭と仕事の両立の難しさが現在でも
考えさせられる。

最後は悲劇という形となったが、元夫と一緒に警察署を出るシーンがこの作品の
言いたいことの全てでしょう。

最初のいきなりの殺人シーンは圧倒されるが、その犯人が誰なのか？
警察署での尋問で徐々に明らかになっていくが、観ている側としては殺人犯人が
特定できないどころか、まさか！という結果になってほんとびっくりでした。
さすがは『カサブランカ（1942）』の名匠マイケル・カーティス監督でした。

それにしてもジョーン・クロフォードの悪女役はさすがの一言。それ以上に、
今作でアカデミー助演女優賞にノミネートされた娘役のAnn Blythの悪女も
恐ろしいぐらいの好演技。
母娘関係の悲劇サスペンスとしてはこの作品の右にでるものはないでしょう。

号泣しました☆
「聖フランチェスコ」が大好きで、彼の事を視覚的に知りたくて今回購入。
Brother　Sun　Sister　Moon　と多少描き方が異なっていますし、
いくらかの前知識は（私のように仏教徒だと特に）必要ですが、
それでもフランチェスコの実像を示してくれる、素敵な作品です。
（余談ですが…ブラザー〜もこちらも、パオロが最初は悪役で登場するあたりが
ちょっと笑えます。）

ブラザー〜で暖かい気持ちにさせてくれるのに対し
こちらは、彼自身の生き方に強く涙します。

私にとって、大きな作品になりました☆

This gun is pointed strait at your heart!
1942 the Nazi occupation of France. Refugees must take a long and torturers rout Through Casa Blanca on their way to America; there “Everybody comes to Rick’s.”
Here we also stay for a while to watch a drama unfold. There are overlapping stories. One of a young couple trying to get to America and the girl wondering if a girl should have to do something was wondering what would happen if her husband, “a boy in many ways”, would find out? A second rate crook obtains something of value at the expense of two germane curriers. A Police Captain shocked to find there is gambling going on at Rick’s. Many other stories surround the main theme of a love triangle that started in Paris and now can mean so much to individuals or the effort for freedom.

Will the Nazi’s win their prize?
Will Capt. Renault get the girl?
Will Rick get away with Ilsa?

This film has become quite a classic. There are many quotes and misquotes attributed to the film. You will find your self kibitzing. One memorable seen for all is the showdown where the Germans are singing “Watch on the Rhine” and Yvonne (Madeleine LeBeau) over powers them leading the “La Marseillaise.”

やはり名画です
説明不要の映画ですが、今見てもとても楽しめます。この映画でボガードが演じている「リック」は、当初、レーガン元大統領が予定されていたそうですが、レーガン氏が演じなくて本当によかった！

バーグマンの美しさと気品は今の女優にはないように感じました。
