Kronos - the ravager of worlds
A lonely traveler is out in the dessert (looks like the same place that many great sci-fi movies were made) in his 50’s pickup when he spots a strange light. Meanwhile back at the laboratory an unusual meteor is being tracked on its way to earth. What do they have in common?

The Dr. Leslie Gaskell (Jeff Morrow) suspects that there is some nefarious plot from outer space. They could be right. But can he prove it?

This movie is missing the front-end dialog familiar with the classics of the era. They just used the word Kronos because they must have thought it sounded nifty like the giant, this of course is misleading as it makes you think it has something to do with time. There is a love interest between Gaskell (Jeff Morrow) and Vera Hunter (Barbara Lawrence). A fun side interest was looking at al the fancy scientific equipment circa 50’s concept. The menacing device is hockey may have had too small of a budget.

Expedition: Moon
Yep this movie is as fun and forward looking as they say. What I found fascination from the beginning was the equipment. The short-wave radio barely reached to space. The gages were an altimeter and an air speed indicator (what air?) and I liked the airplane throttles for the rocket speed. A 1000-LB fuel tank needs moving so Major William Corrigan says “I used to throw a 1000 LB steer over my shoulder every morning” Colonel Floyd Graham replies “Are you sure that wasn’t a bull?”

The first manned rocket (looks like a V2 shape), is pointed at the moon. Through a series of mishaps and miscalculations, it ends up on Mars. Once on Mars that looks like Red Rock Canyon, Mojave, California, USA and Death Valley, California, USA, the crew discovers a secret that is vital for Earth to know.

Do they make it back?

Switch on the emergency gyro
It is the 1962 view of 1985 (they could have picked 1984). All is right with the world. We discover a rock that contains a spool (what ever a spool is); the spool is discovered to contain a message. And want a message. In 1908 Tunguska (read the facts about this in the book The Fire Came by: The Riddle of the Great Siberian Explosion by John Baxter 1976) a great explosion took place. Evidently this was a space vehicle of extraterrestrial origin. It jettisoned the spool upon exploding.

We do not have time to decipher the message do it will have to be deciphered on the way to Venus. Our East German space ship rivals those of Japanese sci-fi with one exception. This ship has an emergency Gyro that can only be activated by using a special hammer to break the glass.

Mean time what will we find on Venus and will it destroy or carry a message to all mankind.

原作を読んでいない人にお勧め
SF界の巨匠、スタニスワフ・レムの第二作「金星応答なし」の映画版です。
1960年に東独・ポーランド合作で共産圏の総力を結集して映画化され、
日本でも「金星ロケット発進す」というタイトルで公開されて大反響を呼びました。
主人公にあたる役を日本人女優の谷洋子が主演しています。

原作の「金星応答なし」は冗長で読みにくいので、
この映画を見てさらっと雰囲気を味わうのがいいと思います。
