人生とは時にあまりに残酷・・・
この映画、一般には随分と評価が低い様ですが、私はとてもいい映画だと思います。ギリシャ悲劇を思わせる人生の残酷さと現実を、演劇という人生の縮図のような世界を舞台に、少女ステラの成長を通して描くドラマであり、「結末が残酷だから」「後味悪いから」とこの映画を敬遠する方は、ハッピーエンドの映画がお好みなのでしょう。

主役のケイツも、ヒュー・グラントも、アラン・リックマンも皆素晴らしい。この映画、確かに万人受けではないかもしれません。あの結末はショックです。しかし、真実が明らかになれば、結果としてアラン・リックマン演じるオハラの行動や感情の伏線が生き、ストーリーに陰影を与え、リックマンの演技に深みを与えていることを評価するべきです。この映画は２度見て下さい。その伏線の巧みさに気が付くはず。

この映画は、フェリーニ監督の「道」、フォン・トリアー監督の「ダンサー・イン・ザ・ダーク」、「奇跡の海」などと同じく、悲惨な結末を迎える映画でありながら、どこかに微かな人生への希望を感じ取れる映画。人生とは時にあまりに残酷、しかしそれでも精一杯生きる事の意味を考えさせられます。

正直、見終わったあと丸一日は打ちのめされた気分でした。あの結末でよかったのか、ほかに道はなかったのか・・・しかしそれがこの映画の意図。見終わった後、なにも考えることの無い映画なんて、つまらないと思いませんか。

ううん。
『ダンサー・イン・ザ・ダーク』と私の中では並ぶくらいの、
鑑賞後の不快感の強かった作品。アラン的にはおいしい場面アリ。

しかし邦題は完全にはずれだったような・・・

リックマンファンの方は必見。
　幼くして両親が失踪してしまったステラは､小さな頃から演劇に憧れ､１６歳で地方劇団の研究生として採用される。彼女は劇団長メレディス（ヒュー･グラント）に惹かれるが､彼はゲイだった。彼女は諦めきれない想いを抱えたまま､新しくやってきた男優オハラ（アラン・リックマン）と交際を始める。ところがステラとその母の過去が明らかになり･･･。

　邦題が『恋する予感』､ヒュー･グラントが主演ということもあり､ラブ･ストーリーだと思って見る人が多いようですが､あまりスッキリするものではなかったです。彼の出番もあまりありませんし。ただ､アラン･リックマンのファンにとっては､バイクに乗ったり､クリケットやったり､フック船長を演じてたりと､オイシイ場面がたくさんありますが

　少し背伸びがしたかった少女の話､だと私は思ってます。

Log before "The Deep" there was "Wake of the Red Witch" A fury filled adventure and a passionate love story with Gail Russell who says, "…I can't be bought."

The “Red Which” is the name of a vessel. In the late 1800’s John, sea captain, pits himself up against ruthless (Dutch) people and a giant (flimsy) octopus and (sturdy) Gail Russell in an effort to recover some pearls. And someone gets killed in the movie.

You get an early view of Gig Young as Sam Rosen who can be seen again in "Ask Any Girl" (1959)

All in all it is a very watchable movie and you may be surprised that you get caught up in the story.

An anti-American Eagle! How diabolical.
The world is being held hostage by a cabal. They are threatening to change the weather if demands are not being met. All the top agents and teams have been sent to find and destroy them. Yet each has met with a fatal end.

Cramden (Lee J. Cobb) the head of Zonal Organization World Intelligence Espionage (ZOWIE) has been charged with finding a solution. After placing all the requirements into a 1960's computer and card sorter, they all boil down to one. You guessed it the undisciplined multitalented Derek Flint (James Coburn).

Can he save the world?

He hands back the issued code book and prefers to use his own code which is a progression of 40-26-36. It is based on... well you can guess.

Watch Coburn again in the same role but as a cowboy in "Waterhole No. 3" (1967)

A fun Halloween story
I have seen this movie dozens of times on TV. The problem is they always cut out a lot of the little nuances that make the movie fun; sometimes it is curtail to the story. Now you can see the whole story in its entirety. Lots of sight gags and relies on many expressions to convey what they are thinking. If this looks like a play, that is because it is a play. It was written by Joseph Kesserling and opened in New York City 10 JAN 41. It ran for 1,444 performances. Boris Karloff was an investor and the star attraction so he could not be released for the movie.
The story takes place all on Halloween night in Brooklyn. Mortimer Brewster (Cary Grant) a critic, that wrote a scathing book about the negatives of marriage, gets married. He soon finds out about his families past and where the bodies are buried. Soon he is to be visited by his estranged or just strange brother (Raymond Massey). Seems that his brother and his brother's friend, Dr. Einstein (Peter Lorre), has some secrets of their own. Keep your eye on the elderberry wine.

What is important in life?
This is a great comedy with a message for everyone. Most of the main characters in this movie have a problem with focusing in what should be important to them. Bishop Henry Brougham (Niven) is more focused on building a cathedral as a monument to God than the purpose of the cathedral or any alternate use of money. Mrs. Hamilton (Gladys Cooper), who holds the purse strings, is thinking the cathedral is more of a monument to her late husband. Even an angel named Dudley (Grant), sent to help, gets sidetracked in the process by the bishop's wife, Julia (Young) who in turn may be distracted by a hat. The great acting of major stars will distract you. Watch this movie to find out how and if they are able to recognize their folly and what they can do about it?
