この作品では、監督が小道具までこだわっていて、見ていて楽しいです。特に若者が持っているピストルに注目！シェイクスピアの名作がスタイリッシュでポップな90年代のシェークスピア作品に仕上がっています。個性の強いキャストが脇を固めていて、主役の美形の２人を引き立てているのもグー。原作のセリフはそのまま使われているのに、こんなにも現代風になってしまうんだと驚きました。現代に置き換えた設定の中では突飛で不自然な箇所もあるけれど、この「ロミオとジュリエット」は迫力のオープニングから衝撃のエンディングまで、ぐいぐい引き込まされました。特に、主役の恋人を演じるレオナルド・ディカプリオとクレア・デーンズの美しさは必見です！
