案外入門向きかもサン・ラーは最後の最後まで大衆的な人気には恵まれなかったが、どういうわけか本来は「売れる」人が出すはずのシングル盤を大量に残した。 これはそういうシングル音源を網羅した2枚組のアンソロジーだが、初期のドゥーワップやR&B風の楽しい演奏から始まり、ライヴ音源や別テイクなど、膨大なサン・ラーのディスコグラフィをさらに補完するような貴重な音源ぞろいだ。結果的に、この途方もないスケールを持った音楽家の長いキャリア全体を回顧するようなものにもなっている。 というわけで、当然まとまりはないしムラもあるが、サン・ラーの全貌を手軽に把握できるという意味で意外と「最初の一枚」に向いているかもしれない。
